NRIS invites contributions to a special issue on Great Power Politics and the Nordics
The Nordic Review of International Studies (NRIS) invites submissions for a special issue on Great Power Politics and the Nordics. This issue aims to explore the multifaceted interactions between Nordic countries and great powers in the contemporary geopolitical landscape. The Nordic region, comprising Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, plays a significant role in the intricate web of international relations. The region's strategic location, economic prowess, and political stability make it a focal point for great power engagement. This special issue seeks to examine the dynamics of these interactions, assessing their implications for regional and global politics. We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics related to great power politics and the Nordics, including but not limited to:
The impact of US foreign policy on Nordic countries
The role of Russia in Nordic security and defense strategies
Nordic engagement with China: opportunities and challenges
The European Union and Nordic states: cooperation and divergence
Nordic responses to global power shifts and emerging multipolarity
Case studies on Nordic participation in international organizations
Energy politics and great power rivalry in the Arctic region
Cybersecurity and technological competition involving Nordic countries
Historical perspectives on great power-Nordic relations
Please submit your paper proposal of 750–1 000 words no later than 31 March 2025. Accepted manuscripts are due in October 2025 and should adhere to the NRIS author guidelines. Paper proposals are submitted through our submission page.
